72mm UV, NEUTRAL COLOUR FILTER
UV (ultraviolet) filter
UV filter looks like a thin toneless glass put onto the threaded filter frame. Quality UV filters are actually covered with multi-layered coatings and are meant in front of the camera lens to decrease the UV light radiation getting into the camera. Most of the time, using this filter has a more pragmatic reason – protecting the lens. Different situations might occur during shooting and the lens might get splashed, dusty or fingerprints might get on it. Photographers know that the cleanliness of the first lens affects the technical quality of the photo and that is why, they make sure that the lens stays clean. When we clean the lens too often, we might ruin the coating on it. It only takes one tiny quartz crystal from the sand and when we wipe it with a cloth; we have the first scratch on the lens. UV filter is a cheap enough tool for protecting the lens. Cleaning the dust and fingerprints from the filter glass is way safer and besides, if something should happen, the filter costs a fracture of the cost of the lens and there wouldn’t be much damage done. Nikon’s high quality filters do not change the optical power of the lens, do not cause chromatic aberration or blur the image. We recommend buying the filter already together with the lens. You can find the measures’ information on the lens or on the inner side of the lens cap.
